My Pain Is Great, but God Is Greater – Part 2

“…I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2 (NKJV)

Oh, we all wish we could altogether avoid overwhelming pains and troubles! But the hard truth is that they do not discriminate. Some troubles hit so hard that it seems like there is no way out.

Recently, Guyana had been dealt such a blow that brought instant and widespread heartbreak and pain – the tragic death of an eleven-year-old. How can anyone get through such pain, especially since there are more questions than answers?

I present the God Who is close to the brokenhearted, Who said that He will not despise a broken and a contrite heart. Instead, He promised to heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds (Psalm 147:3). Surely during such a time, we all need the God who will stand faithful to His promises. We are in desperate need of His help. Apart from Him, there is no other. Though our hearts are heavy with grief and our eyes blurred with tears, we can still call out to God like the psalmist: “Hear my cry, oh God, attend to my prayer.” (Psalm 61:1 – NKJV).

It is a popular saying that ‘tears’ are a language God understands. Though stricken with pain and deep grief, we must be assured that God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is also our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. Because God has remained reliable throughout the ages, we can trust His promise that He will comfort us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others (2nd Corinthians 1:3-4).

Some may say the tunnel is so dark that it’s hard to navigate every passing day. The Psalmist says, “…when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Let this also be our prayer through our pain, since God is greater.

Would you like to receive God’s comfort, peace, and strength in your heart and life? Would you also want to benefit from His leading? I commend you to the loving care of our faithful and merciful God. Shalom.

Prayer

Almighty God, as our hearts are overwhelmed by life’s tragedies, may Your comfort and peace be our portion. Lead us on through every passing day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
